Founded by three Methow Valley couples with wide-ranging skill sets and interests, the idea for The Barnyard Cinema hatched in April 2015.
After more than two years of blood, sweat and tears (almost literal), a few bumps in the road, and the odd crisis of confidence, the cinema is open for business.
As a friend expressed, “Six partners? You’re all going to heaven.”
We are a varied group with diverse backgrounds who share a love of film, and the sense of possibility, camaraderie, education, multiculturalism and entertainment it brings to communities.
Others said it better:
Everybody has something that chews them up, and for me, that thing was always loneliness. The cinema has the power to make you not feel lonely. Even when you are. –Tom Hanks
Cinema is universal, beyond flags and passports. –Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
The moment we cry in a film is not when things are sad, but when they turn out to be more beautiful than we expected them to be. –Alain de Botton
I always admire people who are going on, who have a sort of idea and, however crazy it is, are putting it through; they are putting people and things together, and they make something. I always admire this. -Ingmar Bergman
We look forward to sharing our space with you, the multitude of stories on film, the conversations and experiences that will inevitably unfold at The Barnyard Cinema.
The Barnyard Cinema’s mission is to entertain, inform, and engage — building and catering to a community of film-goers, but also fostering music and other enriching cultural and educational experiences. We are a locally owned business.
